14 Apr 2012 – State Assembly – (Richie Center, University of Denver)
The State Assembly should be shorter this year because there are no Governor / Senator / State office races. There will be campaign speeches by the Republican Presidential candidates or their representatives and a short discussion of the state resolutions list. After approval of the resolutions, they will be forwarded to the National Republican party.
Then, there will be a long litany of short speeches by people who want to represent Colorado at the Republican National Convention in Tampa Florida the week of 27 August 2012. The Assembly will vote on the 36 delegates to the National Convention (compared to California with 172 delegates or Texas with 149, Colorado is not likely to carry much weight at the convention). Currently, the delegates from Colorado are not bound to vote for the Presidential candidate selected in the 7 Feb straw-poll. However, a move has been discussed to make the caucus Presidential straw-poll results binding on the Colorado Delegates.
26 June – State Primary- The Primary in Colorado affects only the State and Local candidates. The presidential candidates are selected based on the caucus straw-poll. However, Republican candidates for County Commissioner, and for the 5th CD and 39th House District will be determined.
Aug 2012, week of August 27th – Republican National Convention – Tampa Florida – The Republican Presidential Nominees for President and Vice President will be selected.
